Troubleshooting the A.R.R.O.W. Speech System - Spelling

FAQ:

A.R.R.O.W. Spelling asks for the licence key every time it is run.

Ensure that the logged on Windows user has permission to modify the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ARROW\Spelling\License

Alternately, log on as a user with such permission, run the program, and enter the licence key (thereby creating the required registry key). In all cases, the logged on user will need *read* permission for the registry key.

Specific Error Messages

"Component MSCOMCTL.OCX or one of its dependencies not currently registered"

"Component RICHTX32.OCX or one of its dependencies not currently registered"

"Component comdlg32.OCX or one of its dependencies not currently registered"

These are common Windows components, used by A.R.R.O.W. Spelling and many other programs. They need to be correctly registered to function. Normally this is done by the installer, however there are a number of reasons why this can fail, or that they can subsequently be de-registered.

To correct this, locate the unregistered file (usually in c:\windows\system32), and execute the following command as an administrator:

regsvr32 < full path to file>

e.g. regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx

A dialog box should indicate success.
